This special edition, comprised of a vinyl and a booklet, provides the reader with the opportunity to follow Susan Philipsz’s creative process in the making of the work A Single Voice. The work was produced for an installation at Bonniers Konsthall in 2016. Susan Philipsz isolated the violin part in Swedish avant-garde composer Karl-Birger Blomdahl’s Aniara and re-recorded it note by note. In the installation every note comes from its own speaker and is dispersed in the exhibition spaces, creating an enveloping architecture of sound. Ever since she discovered science fiction TV series as a child, Susan Philipsz has been fascinated with outer space. In this publication she lets her fascination with the unknown merge with the constant exploration of the sculptural and spiritual dimensions of music that mark her entire oeuvre.
